About Samuel Ben-Or Avital
Through a deep involvement
with Kabbalah, Avital's vision of the world is guided
by sacred texts and a lifelong personal practice. And
while kabbalistic principals are only mentioned in
passing on occasion, it is clear, for those interested,
that his exercises are in fact revealing a deeper wisdom,
an ancient science based on the cosmic laws of creation.
Learning how to proceed from thought or conception,
to action, is the process in fact unveiled internally
through the BodySpeak™ exercises Mr. Avital developed.
Qualities like emotional flexibility, "conscious
innocence," focus, certainty, and being centered
and balanced are reflected in the BodySpeak™ explorations,
such as learning how to trust another as one falls
backward or forward in life; or knowing how to take
small steps in life and in space; or how to hold an
image of what one wants to create in a relationship
or in work of any sort. Universal truths are revealed
moment by moment in a playful yet introspective, practical
yet dramatic way.
"I grew up in a religious family, not fanatic,
but religious in the best sense," Mr. Avital explains. "We
practiced Kabbalah. I learned French and Hebrew. It
was a tolerant religious community that had the true
value of community with everyone helping each other." Mr. Avital traces his Sephardic Kabbalah
in a direct lineage to the15th Century.
Over the years, Avital has also taught classes in
Kabbalah and Hebrew and led "ecstatic" Simhat
Torah celebrations.
Combining an ancestral lineage and upbringing in applied
Kabbalah, Avital awakens, through BodySpeak™,
body intelligence.
Samuel Avital is known
and highly respected as an artist, performer,
teacher, mentor, creative consultant, coach,
and author. His peers and students praise
him for his innovative approach to personal
and professional creativity. He studied mime,
dance and theatre in Paris, France with Etienne
Decroux and Marcel Marceau. He toured solo
in Scandinavia, Europe, North and South America,
before settling in Boulder, Colorado in 1971. He continues
to perform and teach extensively.
In 1971, Mr. Avital founded Le Centre du Silence Mime
School (See, "History of Le Centre du Silence
Mime School") in Boulder, Colorado to provide
an atmosphere free of dogma, judgment, and negative
competition. One of the purposes of LCDS is to "surpass
the normal means of communication offered by the entertainment
industry and society's abuse of the spoken word."
He also founded and directed the Boulder Mime Theatre
(BMT), 1971-1982, which toured locally and nationally
with an unusual repertoire depicting the genius and
stupidity of human nature.
He developed his unique method of teaching, and created
BodySpeak™- The Avital Method. This approach
is based on a philosophy of total honesty, integrity
and creativity of the individual, and is based on the
knowledge that artistic perfection is possible.
Avital has established a remarkable reputation for
the BodySpeak™- The Avital Method of training
through The International Summer Mime Workshop which
has been held every year in the summer since 1975.
This yearly event attracts people from all over the
world.
